Tasks
A task is the unit of work in Elegant Machine. Whether a patient conversation needs follow-up, a referral needs processing, or a flagged conversation needs review, it's represented the same way: a task that an actor — human or AI agent — picks up, works, and completes.
Anatomy of a task
Every task carries:
- A discussion thread — the running record of what's happened: notes from teammates, updates from AI agents, and context added along the way.
- Attachments — files and documents that belong to the work travel with the task.
- Its interactions — if the task involves conversations with a patient (live chat, SMS, voice), those conversations are attached as child interactions. See Interactions & Channels.
- Status and assignment — who or what is responsible, and where the work stands.

Task Templates
Repeatable work shouldn't be rebuilt by hand each time. A task template defines a task's shape once — and templates can be parameterized, so the same template produces tasks tailored by the values supplied at creation time (which patient, which program, which due date).
Templates are managed in Admin › Automations › Task Templates.
Task Batches
When the same work applies to many cases at once — an outreach campaign, a cohort follow-up — tasks can be created in bulk from a template. A batch creates the full set in one operation and gives you a place to watch the group's progress.
Batches live in Agent Hub › Task Batches.
Needs Attention
Some work can't wait its turn in a list. Agent Hub › Needs Attention is the cross-cutting view that surfaces tasks requiring a person now — so escalations and time-sensitive items are seen, not scrolled past.
